Peugeot 1924 : 5 CV Type 172 BC

Peugeot 1924 : 5 CV Type 172 BC

A new model that became popular was the type 172 BC, often referred to as the Peugeot 5CV, launched while the Quadrilette was still available. However it replaced this model by 1925 to compete with the Citroën 5 CV. It first appeared in the Tour de France Automobile of 1924 with the Quadrilette's 667 cc engine with power increased to 11 hp. The following year's evolution had a 720 cc engine with increased torque. It then became the 172 R with styling changes. 1928 saw the arrival of the 172 M with a wider track and reduced engine displacement of 695 cc (14 hp) to make it applicable to the 4 CV fiscal category. The success of the 5 CV would continue throughout the 1920's until its replacement by the type 190 S.
